Every year, as 6th grade studies the Civil War, each student has an opportunity to re-live history by "re-enacting". Students choose one Civil War Era person they would like to learn more about and then research that character. They then prepare a 1-2 minute monologue written from the viewpoint of their chosen character. After writing the monologue, they practice giving the monologue, along with appropriate dress, speech, movements, and props. Invitations are sent out announcing a Civil War Wax Museum and visitors have the opportunity to walk around from student to student, tap them on the shoulder, and view the prepared monologue. The wax museum offers the students the opportunity not only to delve more deeply into our Civil War unit study but also challenges them in writing and performing.
