Achievement Test Scores
Philosophy
Since the beginning of Jubilee Christian School the philosophical approach to assessment
has been one which emphasizes a holistic approach as opposed to a barrage of testing,
and in particular standardized testing.
The educational community is still learning and experimenting with how to align
instruction with assessment and report the results. At Jubilee we value assessment and
consider it during the planning process. Two questions to be considered during this process are:
- Does this assessment measure what I want to measure?
- Does this assessment match the learning process in my classroom?
As we consider the kind of assessment we do in the classroom, (one on one
assessment, written work, teacher created tests, journals, portfolios, interviews, reports, conferences,
observations, Stanford Achievement test, and performance assessment),
we see the need for the child to be evaluated in many different ways throughout the school year to
determine his progress and achievement. However, it is not always in the best interest of the child to be made
to write or color in bubbles to demonstrate what he knows.
