Academic Highlights

Basic Curriculum:
At Jubilee Christian School we follow the integrated curriculum approach based on philosophies out of Calvin College (Michigan). This curriculum stresses an integrated, hands-on approach to learning incorporating a Christian world and life view which is interwoven in all academic disciplines. Units focus on science, social studies, and language arts.
Field Experiences:
Monthly field experiences are unit focused and narrow in scope to help the student make the connection of the unit study with real life.
Parental and Expert Involvement:
Parents play a key role in the educational experience at Jubilee Christian School and we welcome them and experts to share in the classroom through instruction, activities, and assemblies. We value the lessons and information others bring to our school.
Assemblies/Guest Lecturers:
We participate in assemblies given by The Carnegie Museum, Carnegie Science Center and other outside programs. We also welcome guests from other cultures, including missionaries who interact with students on specific topics.
Devotions:
Weekly devotions are taught using Biblical accounts, music, memory verses, and drama to further enhance the Bible principles taught in the classroom and at home.
Science:
Science is integrated in month themed units taught from a Christian world view. Experiments, research, and hands-on activities bring the unit to life. Every other year a science fair is held in the Spring for 4 - 6 graders.
Language:
Spanish language is taught weekly. During the All school unit month (March), additional language instruction is tied into the country of study using an expert in that language. For example when learning about Italy the students had Italian classes weekly for the month.
Memory Marathon:
Students are required to memorize two Bible verses a month and encouraged to memorize more. Once they have memorized 26 verses they have achieved marathon status and are recognized.
Textbooks:
We use the textbooks that best fit into our unique approach. Major textbook companies include Houghton Mifflin, Modern Curriculum Press, Abeka Publishing, and Scott Foresman.
Accelerated Reading:
We use this specialized reading program to assist with reading comprehension and individualized learning; this program assists our teachers in pinpointing areas that need attention.
Accelerated Math:
This software contributes to helping our students achieve success in mathematics. It assists teachers in enabling them to help with individualized Math instruction of students.
Library:
We have over 1300 volumes in our library and students are permitted to check out books for reading at home. Most of our books are tied into our Accelerated Reading program list.
Art:
Weekly art lessons are also tied directly to the unit and instructed by an art teacher. Making a connection with the unit in both Art History and appreciation is highly valued.
Gym:
Weekly gym classes focuses on teaching developmentally appropriate skills for physical education and finishing with a fitness challenge. Field Day is a culminating event for physical education.
Discovery Stations:
Discovery Stations are extra curricular activities that are held twice a year for 5 weeks. Students may choose from teacher and parent lead activities. These activities take place on Friday afternoons from 2:00 - 3:00. Many different topics are available. Past Discovery Stations have included chess, math games, Highland Dancing, yearbook, beading, scrap booking, kitchen science and more. Students go through a lottery system to choose which station they will participate in. The goal of the stations is to give in depth lessons on a variety of subject to complement the academic subjects and units. Student look forward to the multi grade level interaction and fun.
Recess:
A recess period is a part of everyday for 1st-6th grade. Recess is either in the gym, on the fenced rooftop, or on the playground.
Summer Reading:
We encourage reading throughout the year including summertime and publish a list according to reading level. Students are also encouraged to sign up in their local library for the Summer Reading Program offered throughout the Carnegie Library System.
Summer Workbook:
Students are encouraged to use our summer workbook-Summer Smarts. This helps to continue learning and maintain important skills learned in the previous grade level.
