Jubilee Christian School
Early in 1986, a handful of concerned individuals gathered to discuss the possibility of forming a new Christian school in the South Hills. Their goal was to have a parent run school that would build life long learners using an integrated curriculum taught from a Christian worldview.
In September of 1987, one teacher and five Kindergartners met in a classroom of the Beverly Heights Presbyterian Church in Mt. Lebanon. With little equipment, but much love and educational experience the families began to talk to other families about the success of the integrated curriculum both academically and spiritually, and its ability to instill a love of learning in youngsters.
In the next six years a grade level was added each year as needed to provide for the increased enrollment in the school. The principal served as both teacher and principal during those years.
In September of 1996, a full-time business administrator was brought on board. Although the main role is to assist with the business side of running a school this person continues to be the "heart" of the school by facilitating information and caring for our families, teachers, staff, and school community.
In September of 1998, after eleven blessed years of slow and steady growth, our administrator, five teachers, and 52 students began meeting in a building on the campus of the DePaul Institute in Mt. Lebanon. This enabled combined classes to be split into two seperate classes and units.
In September of 2002, Jubilee moved to facilities in the education wing of the Mt. Lebanon United Presbyterian Church in Mt. Lebanon and increased staff to support a growing student population and expanded curriculum. Our Kindergarten program was expanded to two sessions offering both morning and afternoon Kindergarten. At this time Mrs. Wolling moved into a full time principal's position responsible for the curriculum, discipline, and daily operation of the school. Mrs. Wolling's background as an educator and mother of three has served her well to fulfill this important role. At this time the curriculum was expanded to offer Spanish to all students Grade K-6.
In 2003 third and fourth grade were separated into two classrooms and an additional staff person was hired.
In 2004 a part time lunch monitor position was created to assist with lunch time duties. This position was further expanded in 2005 to include clerical and office duties.
In September 2005 the final combined 5th and 6th grade class were split into two separate classes. Additional units were created that are appropriate for each grade level. Units and field trips are under constant review and assessment to ensure that the curriculum is current and complete. Enrollment continues to increase although class size is limited to sixteen per class in Grades 1-6.
In 2005 an exploratory committee was formed to investigate the expansion into the middle school grades adding 7th grade and subsequently 8th grade the following year. Additional sub committees have been formed to look into the breadth and depth of this endeavor and to seek God's will and direction. This investigation continues through the direction of the Board and parents.
Our families look forward with eager anticipation to September 2007 when Jubilee Christian School reaches its 20th anniversary. The families of Jubilee Christian School continue to daily witness God's incredible provision for this wonderful school.
